She Said

“You are my soul-mate”,
she said.
And I believed,
for my own spirit
yearned for her,
in ways unfathomable
to my being,
as the moth,
pines for the flame,
unknowing, but unerring,
fatally.

“I have feelings for you”,
she said.
And I believed,
for in my own heart,
emotions raged,
like storms in the seas,
indomitably.

“You have come to heal”,
she said.
And I believed,
for my own wounds,
unbeknownst to me,
healed as if soothed
by a divine liniment,
listening to her words,
or looking at her,
magically.

“Your words bring peace to me”
she said.
And I believed,
for her words
often flew me
to the virgin shores
of silence meditative,
effortlessly.

“You give me strength”
she said.
And I believed,
for her friendship,
filled me with
fortitude unimaginable,
utterly.

“I cherish your friendship,
and wouldn’t let it go”
she said.
And I believed,
for I knew
I would never
have the courage
nor the will
to let her go,
easily.

And then,
I awoke
from a heavenly dream,
into an interminable
nightmare,
painfully.
